Every time I describe Mastodon to someone they're like "That sounds complicated-- I don't think normal people will be bothered to figure it out" and I'm like "yesssss"

@hellamander it gets really ridiculous when you start trying to reason about who can view what URLs of protected statuses from people who follow each other but are on different instances... like, I've read the API and I still don't really know XD
@hellamander ah I see you haven't yet read up on "activitypub" and "webfinger" (I am not making these up) :D

I figure that once something leaves a given instance, it may as well be public, so haven't really thought about the details
