How can you dispose of a swollen laptop battery in the UK?
Currys do recycle laptop batteries but I've seen conflicting info on whether they'll accept one in this condition
The local recycling centre Probably will take it but that's a 30min bus journey that I'd have to take with this hazardous object

@lion I took one to a recycling centre a couple years ago but I just walked there and confused the hell out of them by not being in a car

I think it’s probably fine — IMO having a battery in the laptop (being hooked up to components, and possibly having pressure put onto it by the casing) seems far more risky than just taking it to a centre

@Ninji yeah it's an old one that's been out of the laptop for a while, I'd just left it in a box of stuff and forgot about it until I found it today and was like oh my god that's very swollen
It is now in a cake tin
