Just to put it out into the world:

Video players in full screen should not necessarily default to vertically centred, especially on mobile.

Video higher up means you don’t have to raise the device as high or tilt your head down as much, and it’s less likely to be obscured by things near the base of the device. Most screens are not like paintings on walls, they are heavy things we keep about us.

@Sophie I hadn't thought about this, but I just checked and the desktop version of VLC has an option for this. Doesn't seem to have it for subtitles though.
