i remember being able to pick any of my smtp server settings in thunderbird as a "from" address when composing a new message on windows but using thunderbird on linux the smtp servers that have no inboxes associated with them don't show up in the from dropdown. help?
i tried googling for the issue and found nothing

i needed to set up identities, which was a modal box really buried into account settings
