what's the drop-in lithium ion thing for hobbyists these days? like a tiny board with 5V in and a charge controller and a regulator
any time i've built any portable electronics i end up taking apart a cheap power bank and just using that as the whole power solution. but a lot of them just don't power up automatically when you draw power and it's never documented on the product page so it's a bit hit and miss

@jk the struggle is real!! i used one to power an 80s boombox i have and every time i want to use it i need to open the battery compartment to press the little button on the power bank
it's an inconvenience but not a huge one and at least now i have a portable boombox without wasting a month's salary on d cells
