the problem with "social media as addiction" is that it has a second layer of addiction for people for whom the addiction isn't social media itself but the friends who are only accessible through the social media. if those people leave the social media they no longer have friends.

@mavica_again (and that's totally valid, i don't even know what the fuck dopamine is anymore)

@mavica_again Amazingly enough, giving people rewarding and stimulating friendships in real life can completely cure their social media addiction! It's also known to cure addictions to hard drugs, and video games.

@cy you will take my video game addiction from my cold dead paws

@mavica_again Now now son I'm gonna need you to just put down the controller just put down the controller and back away.....

@mavica_again I'm just channeling the spirit of a clueless Southern cop in over his head in a hostage situation. Don't mind me.

@mavica_again the same is true when a local business closes, regulars who didn’t share other contact methods lose their acquaintances.

For me, the vast majority of my “friends” ceased the moment the semester ended, and when I dropped out for two years.
