i'm using a decade-old android tablet with probably 512MB RAM and it's uncanny how smooth and responsive android 4 was with this little hardware. what the fuck happened

@mavica_again yeah really - i was having fond memories (somehow?!) of my Xperia Play phone and how zippy that thing felt - it's just a shame it was impossible to upgrade it past Android 2.3!

@mavica_again my old laptop was quite performant in 2010

by the time I replaced it in 2020, it was a slow mess

it's probably the widespread software bloat, because developers fail to recognize that not every user has as powerful hardware as the devs do

@mavica_again What's interesting is the same thing was starting to happen to iOS a few years ago, back with iOS 10. It was starting to get janky and stuttery and laggy here and there.

There was a big uproar among more nerdy users and Apple clamped down and fixed a lot of the performance issues.

Sounds like Google needs to do the same thing now.
