can you help me find an #amiga #ftp client and #tcp #bbs client that works on a 68020 system
ATC crashes, AmiFTP needs classact (i have MUI installed, so i kinda wanted not to have to install classact as well but that's just me being petty) and rnoxfer needs 8mb ram (impossible with PCMCIA)
it's impossible to use an #amiga system without talking to other #users i find, and often when i try i get a worse welcome than the #linux community telling me to just #look it up, please #prove me wrong
@mavica_again for a BBS client I will assume you mean a BBS oriented telnet client. DcTelnet is probably the best. For FTP I personally use cmd line clients but give AmFTP a go for a MUI GUI client.
@jope i'm guessing in 2024 amftp is cool to pirate since i don't think the people you need to send money to register it are even around anymore?
@mavica_again hard to give any recommendation about piracy, it's everyone's personal choice.
I don't think there's a better no cost gui client around than ATC, but it is originally a MorphOS program so requires a rather powerful 68k machine. If you want to try to get it working, make sure you have all the prerequisites by using snoopdos to see that it can load all libraries and mui classes and then try adding more stack.
@jope i have, it just crashes.
@jope if you can't register amftp, how is it a recommendation? am i supposed to live with demo version? or is there an actual owner of the code i can send money to? id love to, if there actually is.
@jope you haven't, you just refuse to say the quiet part out loud 💜
@mavica_again how could anyone recommend someone else to pirate something in a public forum like this? There is a trial version of it on aminet, so you can at least try it out if it solves a short term problem.
The only way I can think of to get a legal copy of this in 2024 is, you could hunt down a used original NetConnect3 CD. The versions on there are not tied to an individual person.
@mavica_again what can I say? It isn't my fault that the Amiga is an abandoned computer and many developers went away 24 years ago. Sorry for wasting your time.
