When, being as precise as you can, was the last time you used a floppy disk of any kind?

@NanoRaptor I have a couple of boxes of 3.5” floppies. I recently bought a USB floppy disk drive to see if any of them have anything worth saving (most are magazine cover disks, a few are personal files that were backed up. Some are more fun things like [legal!] copies of MS DOS 6.2, Windows 3.11, and a few versions of Corel Draw). So far, none of them have been readable.

They are probably fine if I format the, so if anyone had a use case for 80 or so 3.5” floppies, let me know…

@david_chisnall if this is a serious offer, and you are in, or can ship to, the UK, let me know 👀

@mavica_again I am in the UK (Cambridge) and have no real use for them. I want to finish going through them and making sure that there isn’t anything on them I actually want (which will take a few months) but after that they’re just taking up space. I haven’t owned a computer with a floppy drive (aside from the new USB one) for over 20 years.

I also have a small number of 5.25” disks that used to contain BASIC programs from when I was a small child. I couldn’t find a USB 5.25” drive. I don’t really need any of that but it would be nice to find the GWBASIC Christmas Karaoke program I wrote when I was about 11, painstakingly transcribing the music and lyrics into code from a book of Christmas songs.

@david_chisnall I don't currently have a 5.25" drive but that could change 🤔 i'm much more interested in the 3.5" ones though

i'm located in Devon and have a fair few bits of hoarding... i mean collection, the floppies could certainly be gone to a good home :)
