this isn't just about masking, though we can draw a throughline from here to there.

like, we've found ourselves in a situation with people where socially we can only be seen as doing harm, and can never be harmed ourselves, weird scapegoaty shit, and we're the ones expected to be "accountable", but we're not allowed to expect other people do to better by us

talking about it? well that just means we're dangerous because we haven't gotten over it. not talking about it? well that just means we're dangerous because we're trying to "avoid accountability". can't win!
