given the amount of troubles rockbox has given me ever since installing it in my ipod4g, i can only assume everybody who's ever been excited about it didn't use their ipods for more than the first 5 minutes after doing it because of the cool factor before stuffing it back in a drawer
case in point last night i unplugged the ipod in rockbox mode from my computer and switched the hold switch on. i was under the impression this was enough for it to time itself out into sleep, and yet today i woke up to a completely dead ipod which must've been spinning its wheels overnight. with the original firmware this ipod lasts a whole week's worth of commutes
"you didn't read the manual" is all well and good to blame people on for not knowing that you're supposed to hold the play button to send the rockboxed ipod to sleep because wow yes we love manuals but it feels glib in the face of: i have never have had to read apple's original ipod manual. it just worked. "sleep" was right there on the main menu and not guesswork
and even when i didn't manually put it to sleep it still didn't kill its battery overnight
what the fuck. i force rebooted it plugged into USB. the battery is fully charged. Why did it give me an empty battery symbol and refuse to boot
and yet i will persevere against rockbox's many annoyances because i like having a portable Amiga mod (and other computer/vgm formats) player without having to convert them to mp3
