bye rockbox (i was reminded that ipodwizard is software that exists and i can in fact just run the normal ipod software with a dark theme)

@selectric i really want a way to play tracker formats (MOD, XM, IT etc) on my iPod that doesn't involve me having to deal with everything else about rockbox

maybe i need to just suck it up and convert them all to mp3

@mavica_again i sure am tired of "everything else about rockbox", lemme tell ya.

idk much about tracker formats, i assume the end result out the headphone jack is similar enough?

@selectric it's a bit like MIDI in that it's a series of note instructions except it also includes the sound samples rather than just "this channel is piano 2" information, so it needs a dedicated replayer but the files are a few kB rather than several MB for minutes of music

@selectric rockbox has a decent replayer for that that works on my ipod4g but i hate just about everything else about it. i wish i could just graft that onto the stock software

@selectric i guess the major thing you lose with rendering them to MP3 is that a tracker song can not only loop but loop back to any point, like if you want an intro that only plays once and then the at the end the song goes back to the first verse after the intro (which is one reason it was a popular format for game music)

Follow

@selectric so when rendering it to a linear, finite playtime format, you have to make choices like how many times the song should play, how to fade it out if it's written for a loop, etc

@mavica_again ahhhh, makes sense. i thought it was something like that but i wasn't sure how granular it got. neat!!!
