Social media companies have tricked some very smart people into thinking that clout-farming is the only way to create a following, when what we should be doing is building communities

@avon_deer @renbymon want to clarify this reply as i ithink it was confusing, when i say people are clout farming instead of building communities i think that "big" social media has successfully convinced people that posting high-visibility 'viral' content *is* building a community, which it isn't and can never be
@renbymon i am honestly in despair at the number of ppl i know considering getting fooled again. And yet if traffic disappears among the ppl i know here as a result i might be forced to join them. Fuck sake. I thought we were supposed to be technically smart.
