Since I got my Sony Anycast last year I've been looking for some kind of digital "VTR" solution for video playout; something that acts like a VCR that I can use to play videos. I've got a small DVD player with a USB port that is possible to use but I wanted something that I could make a custom control surface for.

It occurred to me yesterday that I could just use LibreElec/Kodi on a Raspberry Pi!

Going through the Anycast manual there is something about playing videos from an external FireWire hard drive, but the notes say "Only video recorded from the Anycast itself can be played this way" and I am wondering if there's a way to trick it into thinking that it has recorded any video that I put on it.

Time to get a FireWire hard drive/enclosure then!
