You can only pay for the application with two antiquated forms of payment, cheque or postal order. Cheques are in museums so postal order is your only option. Find a cash machine. Withdraw the fee. Discover postal orders are charged for. Ask for it to be posted. Pay another fee as the employee informs you that unless you pay for special delivery they cannot guarantee one of their low paid post gremlins will not either steal your identity or just throw your application into the nearest bin.

@renbymon it is a highly unpleasant and generally degrading experience. My own post office is manned by geriatrics so I received the standard slew of intentional misgendering to boot.
Passport is only marginally easier.

@renbymon I had deedpolls made up by the uk deedpoll service. Worked for everything so far
