What opinion would you defend until your last breath?

Mine: PL259 is an awful connector.

@renbymon Paul Neill and Carl Concelman were legends. Neill also invented N-type connectors, which we can all agree is the superior connector for UHF.

@tryst Those are all I use nowadays. All devices with PL-259 connectors on (which aren't in one place all the time) have PL-259 to BNC adaptors.

@renbymon Same. It's way more convenient for field work, and is a very acceptable connector for 0-800 MHz, and less than 400 W. So nearly /P stuff unless you are playing in the microwave bands.

800 MHz to 4 GHz gets increasingly wappy (technical term). You can sort of get away with them on L-band (26 cm), but TNC is better. On S-band (13 cm), you are asking for trouble.

In theory, it can handle up to 1.25 kW, but my EW experience suggests that this isn't a good idea as things start to get distressingly warm.
