It's so weird how brains work. I've had such a hard time getting my head around knots but since coming back home from camping and using the animated knots website for the steps (thanks @philpem!) they've actually been sticking???

Like I can do an Alpine Butterfly Loop and a Bowline from memory, and I'm pretty close to being able to do a Midshipman's Hitch as well. After that it's onto the Prusik Knot and I'll have learned most knots that I'll need for bushcraft/camping.

@renbymon @philpem You do not know how suddenly my face lit up and the deep inhale of joy that I did when I scrolled down and saw the stop-motion of the knot of the day. This is INCREDIBLE for visual learners!!! 8D

@renbymon @philpem Btw if you want to level up your bowlines just the tiniest little bit into a quick-untie:

Instead of passing the end back through the loop to complete the knot, form a small bight and pass *that* through then cinch the knot down.

Same knot, but now with a quick-release that turns it into a simple half hitch that's loads easier to undo after the bowline's been tensioned for a while! 😁

@dragonarchitect @renbymon It's how I learned! I was up on the roof the other week replacing the pulleys, and had it up on my phone to remind me about some of the knots I don't use often.
