whoever invented json and decided that we should use it for everything should be punished.
wait no, no one invented it really. json is actually just a side effect of using javascript in browsers that became a standard due to the philosophy of "well hell, it seems to work so why not?", which is also known as the guiding principle behind 90% of web development.

i was one of them, and i still feel guilt and shame for some of the things that i pushed out there into the world
(also bonus points for remembering SOAP, which was an abomination)
@scarly For what it's worth, before that people were trying to use XML for the same purpose.
