@Felthry recorded with obs at 400kbps 480p
@squirrel Hmm. Could you elaborate on the specific settings you used? When I try, I end up having the audio and video horribly desynchronized, which is not good for this sort of recording.
@Felthry uhh latest OBS, only changed highlighted settings and literally nothing else? you can use anything else other than these settings as long as the file is under 8MB for mastodon, though https://computerfairi.es/media/Z9InyhXhEx-59_iv51M https://computerfairi.es/media/PtxX9i7t5z3l6BKxxTY
@Felthry none of these settings affect synchronization so i don't think i can help you sorry
@squirrel well, there were acouple things that might have done it. I encoded as mp4 because I don't know anything about formats and that was the one I recognised. I didn't realize the 'streaming' settings affected the recording mode, so I had ignored those... maybe the defaults were stressing the cpu or something?
@Felthry no clue at all. mkv/mp4 shouldn't matter. you need to remux to mp4 either way. i record in mkv because it is a streaming container and so if OBS crashes i have a recoverable file, where i don't with mp4 (and this was useful on the latest episode of squirrel-chan's fuck-up hour)
@squirrel hmmm. I wonder if the desync is possibly VLC's playback instead of the actual encoding...? *digs into video things*
@squirrel well, it wasn't, firefox doesn't play it any better. Going to ask a friend of mine who I know works with video software I think
@squirrel yeah this isn't working. might have to just go with some audio-only option to host it.
@squirrel thanks for the help though!
@squirrel I did not know OBS could do recording... but I guess that's kind of obvious that it should be able to isn't it
I will see about videoizing them!
