you (a fool): there's no right or wrong in music

me (a scholar): that's where you're wrong bucko mastodon.social/media/K8bD46-e

@envgen this sounds better than anything i've made

not a shitpost

@squirrel general mibi is fuckin ace tho

not a shitpost

@envgen like every sound i make feels so weak and bland and lifeless

no matter how much i put eq to increase bass i can't get anything to sound as good as this

also using trackers has made me only know how to compose stiff robotic melodies with no feel whatsoever

idk i just don't like my music

not a shitpost

@squirrel i dont trust any musician who actually likes their own music

your jam is your jam, why does it matter if your jam is robotic if that's your jam? whenever i listen to other people's stuff i think jeez i can't do anything like that. why is my music such ass. why am i ass

but i've started trying to remind myself that, y'know, that's just not how i do music, and that's ok, cos i'm good at other things. my jam is different. so is yours and your jam is really good

not a shitpost

@envgen @squirrel I like a song or two of mine in isolation, but taken as a whole I create collections of songs that only exist to make fun of the sorts of arrangement techniques I rely on. I'm taking the arrangement of Stone Roses' waterfall that I'm doing seriously, but it's absolutely 100% a shitpost if you're aware of my other songs

not a shitpost

@envgen yea but i wish i could do stuff more like what you posted
