@troubleMoney NB I'm not above having some h/w lying around or the ability to rent or lease some new stuff if required.
Just seems stupid having all this avant guarde stuff around for decades for nothing.
You may argue that's why it's been decades though. I grant that. I have incomplete information.
@gemlog probably the same reason we own one aircraft carrier and are building a second despite not actually having any planes to put on them yet
People in government deciding that the military needs new toys
@troubleMoney THAT is the more likely reasoning I'm afraid.
@troubleMoney But what/which force influences these silly decisions?
@gemlog politicians wanting to wave a big stick around for the most part
@troubleMoney I think that's the ultimate manipulation, yes, but there's a step beyond that, which precedes it. Sometimes two steps or so.
The proximate cause of the behaviour of many of our politicians lies beyond our borders.
I don't think it's usually political actors, but corporate actors (or those controlling political actors).
@troubleMoney I won't even check; I'll simply take you at your word my tentacled friend.
My point was that our military budget is entirely outsized compared to any threat.
Why do we have these things in the first place?
