I've just realised that I don't know what a scone is. I've understood from context that it is some sort of confection, and the name makes me think it is conical even though it probably is not
@codl they're visually similar enough to US biscuits that any time I see "biscuits and gravy" I think "why the hell did they put grey sludge on scones?"
they're usually, but not always, of a sweet variety, often served with jam and clotted cream
