New Year Resolutions

- Get out the house more
- Make things
- Take better care of the corporeal form I inhabit
- Destroy capitalism

I like the first three but not on board with the last. I'm at a point in life where I need to pay everything off and stow some away for retirement. I used to be a young idealist but have become an old cynic.😃

New Year Resolutions

@DistroJunkie In my ideal set-up of society everyone would come together to do what they can to support the elderly and honour the work they did for the community so you wouldn't need the "retirement fund" bit to enjoy your later years

Yes, that may take a little longer than one year to accomplish

@troubleMoney
That's what the New Deal generation was promised with Social Security and we see how that has worked out. While I agree with the intent and sentiment, reality has led me to the conclusion that the only person I can trust to manage my retirement is me.

Please don't see this as a Republican/Democrat issue. I think both parties in the US share the blame.

New Year Resolutions

@DistroJunkie That's all still working with a capitalist system though

I'm thinking more proper socialism type stuff

But I completely understand your point, under current systems you are more than likely better off taking care of things like that yourself

New Year Resolutions

@troubleMoney
Well, I think we have a very socialist regime. That based simply on the percentage of the populace work for government. On top of that we have FICA, EIC, and federal grants to the States to influence state policies which I see as a direct violation of the constitution. We're not as socialist as many western European regimes but we are pretty socialist. I don't know what the best solution might be. They can all be undermined by politicians.

New Year Resolutions

@DistroJunkie You think the USA's socialist?!

All us europeans are looking over there and seeing an unmitigated corporate hellscape

The USA couldn't be any more capitalist if it tried

New Year Resolutions

@troubleMoney

Oh, it could be much worse. I think our biggest problem is the 2 party system. They've created a situation where it's nearly impossible for a third party to succeed. So we have a pendulum that swings back and forth at face value but in reality both parties are in the back pockets of big corporations. If we had a Parliament with many parties and coalition governments, that would be better. 2 parties just 1 party better than 1 party.
