kinda tired of the black and white thinking people are applying to this uber strike and the like.

there ARE ways people can be pushed into 'being a scab'. disabled people are the perspective i'm working towards here for instance. like, yeah, it sucks.

but be mad at the system that fails both the workers AND the disabled person forced to rely on that same shitty system, not at the disabled person.

"all scabs should die" and "no scab's life is more important than the lives of the workers" is all good in isolation but it ignores the reality of these situations, in a way that is blissfully ignorant of the cruelties of the american healthcare system that disabled people find themselves trapped in

missing one appointment can often mean a heavy fee, a lack of medication necessary for life, or being declared a "noncompliant patient"

for example, if i had to miss my pain doc appointment, i would:

-be without pain control entirely for a month, which legitimately would have me attempting suicide, because constant 9/10 pain with no relief leads to that as a reasonable solution.

-have to pay a 75 dollar fee

-risk being shut out of further medical services for far more than just pain medication because of my "noncompliance"

"well just get another appointment, then"

1. many specialists have waitlists in terms of months to be seen

2. many more doctors only do certain things (like procedures, etc.) on certain days

3. moving an appointment in under 24 hours often means you trigger the same financial penalty as if you had cancelled

"well just take public transport then" is also very easy to say when you AREN'T FUCKING DISABLED

do you know what i'd do if i could walk the two miles from home to bus stop, then from nearest bus stop to appointment, go to appointment, and make my way back?

NOT BE FUCKING DISABLED, THAT'S WHAT I'D DO! I'D NOT BE IN THIS FUCKING FIX WITH A TWILIGHT HALF-EXISTENCE IN THE EYES OF SOCIETY DUE TO MY FAILING HEALTH!

too much of it is just "well i would just simply not be disabled :)" which is, dare i say, not good fucking praxis

basically, if you're supporting the workers saying "we do not want to harm ourselves any longer in support of this shitty system", you can also have compassion and sympathy for the people who are pushed into using the system because they also don't want to harm themselves. you can also care about those lives.

you can support both at once and realize NEITHER GROUP deserves that shit system being forced on them.

i'm probably just a bitter bitch with a hurting shoulder, but honestly i am continually amazed at how some leftist groups who claim to be champions of the downtrodden are still really happy to, at best, have a complete blind spot for the disabled, and more likely cheerfully love injecting ableism into shit. often by making things depend on an entirely black-and-white morality test, and not considering how disabled folks factor in.

in which a wigglytuff expresses some political disgruntlement

at the end of the day, if capitalism says "there's a strict black and white test to determine if you're worthy of being human, and disabled people most likely flunk it, too bad"

and your anti-capitalism radical left-wing politics ALSO says "there's a strict black and white test to determine if you're worthy of being human, and disabled people most likely flunk it, too bad"

what's the fucking point lol.

like from a disabled point of view, there is no change. there has been no revolution. there has been no radical thought. there has been no difference made.

it's just the same shit in a scooby-doo-villain mask and a Che Guevara t-shirt, with goalpoasts irritatingly moved.

aim to make an actual difference, not just reheating the same bullshit, putting on a sprig of parsley, and calling it haute cuisine.
