i still have no idea why disney is sitting on live action treasure planet and instead doign like... live action alladin. live action lady and the tramp. live action lion king.
the only redeeming factor in all of those for me is that apparently they hired janelle monae to do the lady and the tramp soundtrack re-do, but even then it's like... why isn't disney cleaning its own shit instead of just going "uhhhh the black lady is woke and can scrub clean the racist mess that is the siamese cat song"
i'm both interested in seeing what janelle monae does with it, and perplexed that disney feels the need to include it in a modern remake
yeah it gets stuck in your head easily but it's not like the siamese cat song is a groundbreaking work of art that must be preserved
...i mean that's aside from my (admittedly white) confusion that they're combatting racism against asians by sending in a black artist. like... was nobody from asia available at all, disney? no? ok then
