drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show
ok, "the pinkertons" is not what you'd call good tv.
it's like mediocre at best.
but the historical inaccuracy that got my goat? nearly every character treating heroin in 1867 as this thing which is definitely bad and is known to be bad and it's so tragic that it's still legal when it came up during the course of an investigation

"i take heroin for my nerves" should not be met with universal "oh that's so bad for you... how sad that doctors still recommend this stuff and it still gets sold... smh 😔 "
NAH EVERYONE'S GONNA GO "OH OF COURSE, WHAT A GOOD TREATMENT YOU'RE ON".
COS IT'S
FUCKING

@wigglytuffitout 1867 was still during the era of morphine or opium, heroin didn't start being introduced as a morphine substitute for decades afterwards
re: drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show
@wigglytuffitout so like not only are they super wrong about the attitude towards opiates but they aren't even using the right opiates for the time period
re: drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show
@InspectorCaracal YEAH THERE'S ALSO THAT HONESTLY
but even if they had gotten it right and said morphine, like... nobody would be saying tickety boo about this shit lol. a woman who is crippled with the mental stress of memories of being a nurse in the civil war? of COURSE she's gonna have a morphine kit, and that's gonna be NORMAL as THE BEST TREATMENT BY POPULAR OPINION
anyway it irks me lol
re: drug mention by way of a wigglytuff kvetching about historical inaccuracies in a tv show
@wigglytuffitout civil war? so wait, the US?
yeah she should be taking laudanum

listen i'm sure there were some people sad about it, two years after the civil fucking war ended in america, but MOST people WOULD treat it as A SAFE AND EFFICACIOUS WONDER DRUG because THAT'S HOW IT WAS THOUGHT OF AT THE TIME
at least throw me a bone and have a character objecting to it laughed off by someone as "lol what a conspiracy theory, it's not like heroin could be harmful!" then stare at the camera
