i'm very happy that on mastodon (or at least this bubble of it), i have not encountered anyone of a particular odious type i can only describe as "evangelical atheist" and in fact have seen this shit roundly mocked
bc it's inevitably a white dude sitting upon a throne of privilege who doesn't understand that maybe people have different relationships towards religion than he does as A Stick To Hit People With and who does not understand that his atheism is just swapping out one stick for another
it's interesting as it makes it obvious how much more minorities view religion as a promise instead of an immediate tool
the canticle of the turning vs. "it is my god-given right to rule over you". it's the comfort of "swing low, sweet chariot" versus the divine right of kings.
and i'm pretty fucking glad that the 'evangelical atheist' numpties who are excited about a new big stick to hit people with are not tolerated around here
