mastodon question
Hi, I‘m quite puzzled right now.
A friend of mine is on kitty.town while I‘m on cybre.space. She follows me and I follow her*. But she can’t see my toots in her timeline, she can’t even find me when she searches for my @name@domain
How? Could it be, that one of the servers is blocking the other one? Can you check for that somehow?
*actually we used to follow each other but that was somehow suddenly not the case anymore
mastodon question
@schokopflaster one of the reasons why otherwise compatible instances might end up getting blocked is "it turns out the admins on one end are just not interested in taking action against an obvious toxic bad actor that is affecting all users, so the best thing to do is preserve users from danger by blocking that instance". i'm going to guess it might be an issue of that going on. i'm not up to date on everything but i seem to remember cybre.space talked about in that manner.
mastodon question
@schokopflaster @wigglytuffitout According to it's /about/more Cybre has 2,350 users, but yes, I can totally see some instances blocking it for differences in moderation, as I also heard similar in the past. (Haven't had the spoons to more closely investigate.)
mastodon question
@minx @wigglytuffitout I should really look around on the /about more ^^‘
Oh, I didn’t see any of the moderation differences :0. That’s indeed a potential problem to think about. What to do, when your instance is suddenly one of the blocked ones? :<
mastodon question
@schokopflaster @minx fortunately, one of the boons of mastodon as opposed to other social media sites is that alts are free and easy and downright encouraged :) so if your friend says "you know, i'm not sure that this strict moderation style is really suiting me these days", there's no shame or social stigma in making another account somewhere else ^^
mastodon question
@schokopflaster (of course, you saying "you know, i think i see the logic with this quiet walled garden approach, and somewhere more quiet would be nice to try too" is also perfectly valid! some people hop from alt to alt, some people move accounts, some people do a mixture of both of alts for specific purposes and so on and so forth.) (the additional politics is a little confusing at first but it's pleasantly freeform culturally, if that makes sense!)
mastodon question
@wigglytuffitout @minx Thank you two for your answers! Thanks to your links I now know that it's not cybre blocking kittytown, as cybre is only blocking two dozen instances.
But as KT's block list is only accessible for members (why? that's usually something I would like to know before signing up there...) I have to wait for the KT-member to login and check the list.
KT seems to usually block otherwise ok instances when they grow bigger than 10.000 members. Maybe cybre fits the bill.
