maybe i know more linux people here that'd know how to help:

I've noticed that emoji are completely invisible, anywhere (except Discord, which I assume does its own thing entirely). No matter whether I try to paste one myself (from e.g. Emojipedia) or read messages containing them, they just cannot be seen, not even with the "tofu" block. I'm running Linux Mint 22.3 with Cinnamon.

fonts-noto-color-emoji and fonts-emojione are both installed through apt.

@wildweasel do you have a fonts.conf in /home/user/.config/fontconfig/? Sometimes it needs to be deleted. Sometimes it needs to be updated with different fonts. May try renaming or something like that first.

I haven't had an emoji problem in Linux in like a decade so I'm surprised it popped up again! Fonts get weird though.

@effika I have no fontconfig in /.config/ at all. Output of fc-list includes both emoji fonts.😥

@effika 🤷‍♂️ Looks like the solution was, in fact, to _uninstall_ Noto Color Emoji, because it had somehow lost all of its emoji.

@wildweasel that is definitely a Linux problem and solution
