Stop misusing terms to garner sympathy. Get it TOGETHER.

Some of yall really will abuse the terms abuse, toxic, stalking, fascist, and victim-blaming truly to manipulate people and it is terrible.

Bitching about computer nerd stuff

Fuck the GNU Project. Just...fuck it. Fuck it to hell and back.

Turns out, setting the `POSIXLY_CORRECT` environment variable causes things to break, meaning that the GNU Project is doing things so far from standards, I literally *have* to use their fucking software on my Arch system, whether I like it or not.

Thanks, guys. I'm glad you're freeing me from the tyranny of not being able to control my own computer. You're doing a great job. /s

re: anger

@chara_dreemurr@plural.cafe I don't know that!

...afraid you and Kara are just gonna keel over one night, some nights

my parents stop thinking having "company towns" where everything costs scrip will be a good idea when tech companies do it even though it was a fucking disaster when mining companies did it challenge

I wonder what would happen if, say, the Teamsters said “hey Walmart, if you try to fire union organizers, we’re not delivering to your warehouses anymore”.

anger

Chara's trying to be nice and philosophical about it and all but holy shit Kara's been running on fumes for fucking months now

give her a fucking break already

anger

I don't know what the fuck exactly Kara / Chara got mixed up with last night

but there are certain people I wanna punch in the face, really hard, right now, for their part in it

how dare you play with us all

how DARE you

One of my favourite Undertale comics is that one where Frisk takes Papyrus to a human supermarket and shows him the pasta aisle and it's like a revelation to the guy and he's so overjoyed

And I love it not because of "lol the funny pasta skeleton", it's because of just how pure and earnest the reaction is and it just makes me so happy to imagine just .. being able to bring so much joy with something so simple.

never seen that "fac" terminology anywhere else. guess it refers to how the iridium, instead of simply bonding to the pyridine nitrogen, also (apparently!) strips a proton from the adjacent phenyl, making a bidentate ligand

(hexacoördinated, not hexadentate, bleh)

other arylpyridine ligands work. it's just plain simple "heat the ligand with IrCl3". more cooking than chemistry haha

what are these iridium complexes useful for? photocatalysts, apparently

also the stuff is spectacularly yellow

need to relax so here's _Organic Syntheses_ roulette. I generate a random English word off a website, and put it into the text search box of orgsyn.org and see what article first comes up

the word, "energetic"

orgsyn.org/demo.aspx?prep=v95p

well, it's...simple!

synthesis of a hexadentate complex of iridium(III), fac-tris(2-phenylpyridinato)iridium(III)

@fibonacci_reminder yeah, something to do with minimizing wasted memory or too many operations or something haha

I always preferred the dirtier sciences :=D

length

@fibonacci_reminder oh I think the "buddy" idea comes in with the way that the blocks are split up. when a memory request comes in and you have a free block that's larger than the request you split it into two "buddies" of unequal size (but, Fibonacci ratio between them) to get smaller blocks

length

@chara_dreemurr@plural.cafe @fibonacci_reminder I can't quite remember what the "buddy" thing was about

length

@chara_dreemurr@plural.cafe @fibonacci_reminder haha not enough. and the Wikipedia article isn't very lucid about it, it looks like

but it refers to a scheme of maintaining a "heap", a pool of memory blocks, where the blocks are subdivided according to Fibonacci-sized chunks

length

@chara_dreemurr@plural.cafe @fibonacci_reminder makes me think of the Fibonacci buddy memory system, which is too cool a thing not to exist

although I don't remember whether it's actually that good an idea or not

re: corporate media vs. collective media

@packbat *snorts* I think my ideal future is one where "YouTube" still exists but it's run by a pack of queer space anarcho-communists or something

"YouTube" is just a _name_, in the end. a big, heavy name, but a name

maybe it can be attached to something cool :=3
