in general, i spend just about this much time building a character in any game with a halfway decent character editor
i kinda cheat with character names, since Scarly and variations can be applied to nearly every setting

There's a game we've played in the past with extremely granular character appearance customisation, where several characters we would have started never happened, because we ran out of energy trying to get the look just right. ^^;
So I sympathise. Getting the right look is even harder than picking a good name.
