With ramen too I hear, but I haven't tried that myself.

Haven't had that specifically...! I'd definitely agree, having at least seen some proper ramen bowls. I think it's more a thing you add to a pot of super-cheap ramen for flavor. Like eggs and green onions to make a thirty cent pack more than just cheap noodles and salt?
