@starfall it depends on a couple things*, but raking is what is generally taught first, since it requires a lot less precision in general
(specific bitting, and the type of pins in use in the lock - the mushroom looking pins that you see in Schlage F series locks are kind of obnoxious to rake imo)

though to be fair we're not totally starting fresh. we've played around with a partner's lock collection before so it might just be a matter of practice
