I think a lot of people are intimidated by fighting games because of an outdated understanding of what some games were like 20 or 30 years ago.
The genre has a reputation for being obtuse but every game from the last 15 years has a beginner-friendly tutorial.
Also a lot of people only watch high-level play and don't understand that that's not what's expected of them. You don't need to play a sport at a professional level to play with your friends in the backyard. Fighting games are the same way.

hey has anyone shown the fediverse petpet yet

it lets you make these.

Maybe you are, maybe you aren't, can't hurt to try if trying feels right.

tech grumble

why does mysql allow read to be created as a column but not used or altered?

at least with other reserved names you can alter them, but not with read for some reason

I'm looking for a game with good character creation, preferably a dungeon crawler and/or a rogue-like/lite, but other kinds of games like open world RPGs are good too.
I don't want an MMO though.
Any suggestions and/or boosts helpful

instead of cutting their various nails, humans should simply evolve retractable claws

lb we can expand this to the general idea that you need to be able to give up a bit of convenience to make sure one company doesn't take control

Here's the really bitter pill we need to swallow to start moving past monopolistic capitalism: there is no replacement for Amazon, Github, Twitch, and Google. Period.

Their ease and usability are the result of monopolistic privilege.

The things they do are technically, logistically impossible without a trillion dollar mega-corp doing them. For the average use-case, your QoL will drop, significantly, moving to a smaller or self-hosted solution.

You need to accept that, and do it anyway.

halloween is when you dress up as a catgirl and christmas is when you dress up as a catgirl and everyone realizes it wasn't a costume

cw request

As we get into the holiday and New Years resolution seasons, there will be tons of social pressures to adopt diet and exercise routines (which are 95% likely to fail in the long-term). I imagine this will get worse as people continue to joke about the “quarantine fifteen” or whatever. There were tons of anti-fat sentiments when quarantine first started, and I’ve been dreading New Years resolution season more than ever because I’m sure covid is going to make it even worse.

Please please please CW your exercising, dieting, and weight loss efforts posts. Even if you think your post is neutral, it isn’t.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Everyone who has a body you dread looking like, and everyone recovering from eating disorders.

recently upgraded from 2.5.0 (yeah, I know) to glitch-soc latest, having some problems with images

specifically we're getting 500 errors any time we do an image upload and images on toots from other instances aren't loading

we've also changed the directory that we've got the masto stuff in

I'm sure it's something ridiculously simple in a config file somewhere, but as it's beyond my core competencies does anyone have any ideas?
