I had an all in one printer that was like this, because it only had cmy cartridges... It literally made "black" by mixing all three.
It was garbage.

(Worse still, if it couldn't print because of a cartridge malfunction, it wouldn't do ANYTHING. you couldn't even use it as a scanner!!)
