Ablism / beware making fun of ‘weird’ products - bc it might be for disabled ppl
Before you laugh at or say a product is weird and bad.
Or for ‘lazy’ people.
Consider—would this be a thing that’d make life easier for disabled people?
Would this be good if somone had coordination or motion problems? Or couldn’t use their hands well?
If someone couldn’t walk?
Often we're not shown as the demographic a thing is aimed for bc we’re not seen as a big enough market. So an abled person is shown in the ad!

@Doggo I heard that a lot of those "wacky infomercial" products are advertised the way they are (with typically white able folk) because of the perception that if abled folks see it marketed at them, they'll buy these "handy gadgets" and then go "oh right this might help my relative who can't open jars" etc and buy it for THEM, hence why they all have "comedically clumsy" people in the ads.

It’s p much them not wanting to show disabled ppl or thinking they can make money from us.

@Doggo I've no idea how true that is but just on general principle, on the offchance that IS the case, I stopped thinking about them as a comedy thing and more as a "fuck me capitalism is bullshit if this is literally the only answer they had for 'how do we get less abled folks to be able to buy our products' ".
