fascinated by this drone thing. drones cant stay up more than an hour surely? so there's got to be a whole bunch of them, or it's going somewhere periodically to recharge (would explain lack of footage and infrequency of the sightings). what's weird is that in the only footage to emerge, from someone's phone, the drone is emitting quite a bright light, which seems an odd thing when it's trying to conserve battery power. so on top of everything else it's probably aliens

and everyone's jumping to the conclusion that it's terrorism, which it probably is, except it's not really is it. there's no real terror is there. if anything it's nuisancism. it's like when that volcano in iceland went off

my theory is it's radical political action, maybe relating to recent climate protests (what with it being an airport and all) but a fringe group who've gone a bit rogue

it doesn't fit the modus operandi of terror attacks in the uk, they seem to be trying to cause as much nuisance as possible but going out of their way to avoid causing any danger

reports saying that every time the drone has been gone for long enough that they're about to reopen the airport, she shows up again. so there must be hours between sightings before she shows up and buzzes them again. still, seems weird that nobody can keep eyes on a drone in an airport full of equipment designed for doing precisely that sort of thing

im sure there's lots of very upset and angry people

but i really am finding this escapade very entertaining in a slapstick sort of way

its so clever tho isnt it. all these people on twitter theorising that something bigger must be being covered up cos how can a high tech airport and the police and the army possibly fail to catch/track/destroy/jam a little toy. but they can't! it's too zippy to catch, too elusive to track, too small to destroy, and the airport is too sensitive to start jamming whole frequency bands. it's so clever. i'm in awe

while we're on the subject of drones, ive just learnt its illegal to fly a drone within 50m of a person in this country, which is great news, can i suggest an amendment to the law, that if a drone should fly within 50m of a person, that person has a legal responsibility to throw a fucking rock at it

two people have been arrested on suspicion of doing drones

they're a local middle aged couple who live five miles from gatwick, which makes me think most likely their house under a flight path and they were protesting the noise in a bellended way
