i bought sonic mania recently because i've heard so many good things about it and i played a bit
it's... better than the genesis games, slightly. but it's still a sonic game. they thankfully cut out the shitty puzzle sections and underwater bits (okay there was one underwater bit but it was short) that dragged down the genesis games so much, but for some reason they decided to implement the godawful special stages
i stopped playing at flying battery zone because that was clearly where they gave up on the "making a platformer game about going as fast as possible is a good idea" thing and just decided to make it a dull, mediocre platformer
the mean bean machine bit was good though. i liked that. and the aesthetics and music and presentation all kicked ass. but the gameplay itself... bleh

@lynnesbian I feel you on this. The Mean Bean Machine minigame was... pretty rad, and a nice surprise, and made me realise how much I goddamn love Puyo Puyo.
But wow.
just... wow.
I mean it's a great sonic game, but... it's also a huge wakeup call that ... even the original Sonic games are... not... great.

@softmetals @lynnesbian I never got it because I kinda... didn't like the AoStH stylings they used, but in hindsight I probably should have because it's just a reskinned Puyo Puyo and that game is rad as hell.

@lynnesbian (I did complete Sonic Mania but wow I wish I hadn't bought the Encore DLC too because I tried playing it and while it's cool I just... eeehhhh... - also absoultey fuck those goddamn special stages they aer SO AGGRAVATING, trying to friggin get all the chaos emerals SUCKS)
