So I'm expecting "oh yeah if I pop them in the head a couple times that's it they're gonna be down easy peasy and I can move on" like the rest of the early RE games and even Resi 0 and REmake 1
but no
ohhhh no
nonono
not this time fucko, the game goes
this time your piddly little "Matilda" pistol is gonna be about as much use as throwing spitballs at them. Nooo dear Leon this is survival horror now. Emphasis on Survival.

@Nine I kept walking up and nervously knifing them after I got 'em in the head a bunch, and even though that gave me peace of mind, it made me more anxious because that knife durability was goin' down ahahaha

@Farlow oh yeah I actually really like that system tho. the blend of the Emergency Knife thing from uh... shit what resi game was it that had that... was it Code Veronica where knives were a subweapon rather than an inventory slot thing and were expendable one use get-outta-zombie-free cards? (there were also tasers too ircc)... or was that REMake where you had daggers and tasers for that, AND a combat knife??

@Nine I think it was REmake?

@Farlow yeah probably REmake come to think of it because I remember Jill being able to do it but brunette Jill not Resi 5 inexplicably blonde supersoldier Jill becuase it was 100% a fixed camera angle type game, not an over the shoulder thirdpersonshooter game.
(I do like the Resi 4 and 5 games, honestly. I love their systems, but they are NOT survival horror and... oof, they are not good resi games.)

@Farlow (I've not played Resi 6. and even when it was on sale for like... £5. I still don't want to :| Resi 4's bad action movie game aesthetics were charming because of how non-serious it ended up being with Leon's cheesy action movie star one-liners and the ridiculous villain and sidekick characters. It was an absolute laugh. But Capcom learned all the wrong lessons from it, and went full action game instead for the rest.

@Nine resident evil 6 was a nightmare for all the wrong reasons

@Farlow anyway whichever it was, I really like the fact that the knife isn't a "you always have this" thing, and there's more a chance of it breaking but it can save you damage if used smartly, or get you out of a pinch. they've really reinforced the Survival Horror aspect of it again and I WHOLEHEARTEDLY approve.

Sure you can shoot them in the head a lot, and sure it definitely does quite a bit more damage it seems, finishes them off better and quicker and more efficiently (also holy crap the deformation of the head/body parts is... kinda wild and realistic and yikes so much gore o_o;;; )
but it's still gonna take like... six shots. minimum. oh and there's no telltale blood puddles this time around.
