how fucking boring do you have to be to insist on that kind of "realism" when you could literally have a sona that's a dragon, or a robot, or a robot dragon, or a friggin shark, or a sergal, or avali or whatever else.

Unfortunately there are. I've seen em around for years. Some aren't that bad but others can be just plain nasty.
@Nine there definitely is, but you have to unpack that "fake" species havers/creators get flak because historically speaking those have been mostly self absorbed artists and scammers doing "closed species" auctions and raffles. Most of that contempt is kinda phased out as the "you have to be an artist & draw your character" fixation of the 00's has mostly died out, but to a lot of the fandom fantastical yet not rooted in pre-established something-or-other just reads as a big red I'M MORE SPECIAL
