This is the closest photo I still have of what I described. It's not the same, but it is pretty nice

and also CROW

japanese crows have an entirely different sound to english crows. Like, very, VERY different, like I was like "oh I guess they sound a little different??" but no, they sound... like an entirely different bird.
Here's some japanese crows: youtube.com/watch?v=zOpWpFOQRP
aaand here's a more familiar crow sound: youtube.com/watch?v=bd-GyU-S6D

by all accounts, crows have different "accents" depending on where they are.

oh, alt-text for that photo because i'm a dingus and forgot to add it:

a picture of a low, rough stone wall in japan, behind it are dense forests. In front of the wall, centre frame, is a power line, which basically is just a long thick wooden pole with wires coming off junction boxes at the top (which are7just off frame) in Japan.
An earth wire tethers from the top to the ground at an angle. There are various footholds nailed into it on one side, and various metal bands around the top

furthermore just to the left of said power pole, there is a convex reflecting mirror on a metal, somewhat rusted pole, upon which a pair of japanese crows are sat. the photo is slightly blurry because of the distance (getting closer would have disturbed them and made them fly off most likely so I had to zoom in on my phone which is never that good for image fidelity).

It is daytime, and the weather was glorious, if extremely humid, that day.
