Honestly the japanese public transport network is a thing of absolute wonder when compared to what we've gotta put up with in the UK*
(*: PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN NAME ONLY, FOR IT IS NEITHER, and so on. **)
((** actually I just realised that technically speaking the train networks are PRIVATE companies now, and they're only transportation in that they take people places, but holy FUCK they are a shambles, so... that ACTUALLY IS AN ACCURATE MEME holy fuck))
Oh also thing I forgot!!
Crosswalk jingles!!
Whereas in england both ends of the crossing beep at walkers in unison, in Japan you get a beep at one end, and THEN the other end beeps, and back and forth, whilever it's safe to be crossing, so you can tell audiably which side you're getting closer to so you know more or less how far you might be across.
Also if there's a bunch of crossings in one small area, they each have different sounds!
There's a video of one here actually, they do this alternating chirping noise a lot of them do, it's really nice. Plus the visual countdown lights on the signage for how long you have to cross, AND (dunno if it's shown in the video) how long before you CAN cross as well.
