So in 1453 the Ottoman empire conquered Constantinople. They decided they wanted to rename the city away from it's Catholic origins, but unsatified with just a military conquest they decided to put that up to a competition as well. A vote of every person in the city would be taken to decide which farm animal was better: the bovines or the goats. If the goats won, then the city would remain Constantinople. Otherwise, the Ottomans would change the city's name. (cont)

Obviously, Constantinople was no stranger to a lil competition and it's citizens took to the streets to convince everyone that goats were the best thing ever. Goat Cheese was sold on every corner. Goats where perched on every wall happily baa-ing away the day. Every priest, politician, and merchant was out there marching goats in hand as a symbol of status.

But! The Ottomans had a different strategy. See, they marched in cows by the dozen for the peasants. (cont)

By the end of the month every person in the city has some kind of personal farm animal. The countless poor had cows and all the bounty that came with it. All the people of high class had goats. So surprise surprise when the day of the vote came and it went down to a perfect 50/50 split. Exactly down the middle.

But! Only one person hadn't voted yet. So suddenly all the sway was focused on them. Everyone crowded this person, offering money, power, fame, anything to say their vote (cont)

Of course, this meant that the goat leaning party was shouting loudest with all their attempted bribery. But as the last person stood at the ballot and was ready to mark their vote, they turned to the crowd and said "You've all made convincing arguments in favor of goats, but in the end I stan bulls."

@fluxom_alt god....dammit., fuck. fuck. fuuuck.

I knew it was leading to a joke, I just knew it, and yet... and YET... I was still taken for a goddamn ride despite that. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.
