so i just completed a full game of portal 1 for p. much the first time ever? not my first time experiencing it at all but the first time ive actually beaten it personally. the last time i played it seriously was when i first got it for my 9th birthday and i got bored of it before i even reached the outer chamber areas

good things about portal 1:
- it still runs pretty ok despite source engine being shit!
- the puzzles are pretty good! i liked them
- the portal gun is still a pretty unique mechanic!

bad things about portal 1:
- the humour doesnt hold up at all nowadays!
- the physics are janky as hell because of source engine!
- that boss is a bit annoying and i couldve done w/o it!

Renalia - LOGGED THE HECK IN @Nine

@puppy You know I'll agree with you. I haven't played it that recently but I really did like the sequel's humour a lot more. It was darker, punchier, more effectively done. Granted the middle section of the game felt like it dragged a lot in the sequel, but personally I still prefer Portal 2 to 1.

@Nine portal 2 is almost certainly the "here, lets do this again but better"

@puppy @Nine 2 is definitely the better game in most aspects, yeah.

@puppy oh totally. There's so much more character development too of both GLaDOS and Cave Johnson as well. Hell the Cave Johnson bits are simultaneously some of the funniest AND BONE CHILLINGLY CREEPIEST bits of the game.

@Nine cave johnsons moments are 100% the "hey, reminder that humans are possibly scarier than robots like 99.9% of the time?"

@puppy also just the implication of Cave's final speech to the facility about brain uploading and...just...yyyyikes. Holy hell.

@puppy @Nine i feel like the comparison is a bit unfair though since the first one was essentially a freebie

@tom @puppy that's pretty fair considering that POrtal 1 came out with the Orange Box originally didn't it? It did have a stand alone release though right?

@Nine @tom i owned that standalone release 'w'

@tom @Nine its not unfair at all. the two games are part of the same series. it was and still is sold separately.
