@owashii@snouts.online there's this whole shtick about how there's like, three or four fuckin' timelines two of which the audience basically never sees (trunk's original unaltered unCell'd timeline, and the timeline Cell came from which was created by Trunks going back the FIRST time, which he returned to, and got eaten by Cell - we see that one in a flashback mind you), but... yeah. that's a headspinner.

@owashii@snouts.online followed by androids fuckin' shit up, and trunks trying to stop them, and apparently succeeding eventually, via time machine, but then Cell wakes up and is like "AW SHIT welp, gonna steal this time machine... but FIIIiiirst~" and eats Trunks, power boost, climbs into time machine, warps, devolves, hides while 17 and 18 are made, then reemerges.

@owashii@snouts.online So it stands to reason that having spent time away and gotten MORE powerful in the intervening stage with the instant transmission stuff, and with Frieza AND his dad back, he'd be like "...this fuckin' shit again? you never goddamn learn." and just wiped him, his dad, and any of his forces that wouldn't stand down out in a wave of his hand.

but this being Goku, WOULD have given them a chance to run first. Long enough to harvest DNA from 'em.

@owashii@snouts.online NOT killing Frieza was him being CRUEL, not merciful. He wanted him to live with the knowledge that Frieza, at the limits of his power, would NEVER beat Goku. EVER. he told him to run with his tail between his legs and live, and if he ever saw him again, he'd kill him.

When Frieza went "FUCK YOU I'M STRONG ENOUGH TO KILL YOU" and tried to kill him with the energy Goku gave him to escape, he went "welp, choice made I guess" and killed him.

@owashii@snouts.online in the original manga (this is canon btw) once Goku went super saiyan, even at 100% power final form Frieza was very, very outclassed. He never stood even the slightest chance. Goku was very literally toying with him to see the limits of this so called 'god''s power.

Hence why at the end he went "bored of this shit now, you're no challenge, you can't win" and unpowered.

@owashii@snouts.online okay, apparently, in the original Cell timeline, the one we never see, that Cell came from, which is utterly unaltered, Goku beat up and killed Mecha Freiza and King Cold, which is where the DNA was harvested from. It's possible Goku didn't go Super Saiyan there because he didn't need to, and officially Gero's super computer was doing all the harvesting work, so didn't get newer Saiyan DNA.

However, more likely, that's a bunch of handwavium powered justification for "fuck forgot that"
