WELP. so uh. I was walking towards a house, following the girl, she went in, I accidentally followed, but JUST before I did, I saw a spear being thrown towards me that I had no time to dodge. LUCKILY I entered the house... annnd apparently spoke to the girl's mother. who... upgraded... my sword?...
...dang momma, you got some neat smithy skills.
and now my sword shoots big swirly balls heck yeah let's wreck shit.
...aaand there's bearded men with spears, and... GIANT EVIL TREES? WHAT??
Oh wow she's taken me to her village and it is.... a mess. yike. some serious crap went on here.
Sooo, I go exploring, shooting badguys with my magic sword, big ol' wings on my helmet that look like bunny ears even though they aren't, jumping platforms (this is a top down 8-way shooter btw, pretty neat), come across an oni beating up some girl that's tied up, quick boss battle, kick his ass, find the girl who got kicked aside before the fight, free her and she's leading me somewhere. So far, pretty fun!
well this PCE game Valkyrie no Dentetsu or something is off to a good start. The protagonist is talking with some kinda goddess on a cloud, I'm guessing she tells the MC to go sort out some problem on the planet, so the heroine turns, walks off the cloud, and ... plummets. hahah

yeah it's Space Harrier with a Fantazy Zone skin and a shop at the end of the levels. Even the music is just the first bit of Space Harrier's main theme and THEN the fantasy zone bit XD

it's the companies profiting off disaster and keeping pilots in the hole. it's the states deciding that business as usual is somehow okay when the monuments to the dead grow as high as skyscrapers. it's every two-bit pilot who wants the thrill of being a hero instead of seeing behind the facade of the Kaiju Era and the Survival Paradigm.
and something clicks. and the eschaton engine roars. and you feel invincible. you don't bow to alerts and apps. you're here and will not be denied.
*dies in the second level right as everything goes to heck after getting the wallcrawler powerup, despite clearing level 1 without any issues whatsoever and beating the boss in the time honoured fashion of chucking a full powered Force into its chestmouth and then just hammering the firebutton as fast as possible*

Okaaaay R-Type Complete CD time. cannot understand a word of the japanese story segments sadly but I know basically the entire plotline of the RType series, more or less (the tactical games notwithstanding).
