One of my favourite games on the Megadrive/Genesis, and in general, is Gunstar Heroes by Treasure.

It's a Contra-esque run and gun platform/shooter with lots of juicy explosions, bright colours, BIG weapons, lots of action and a great soundtrack, with a unique weapon combination system. In it, there is a boss you face twice, called Timeron - first in a standard gameplay section, and the last in a side scrolling shmup level.

Oh whoops jumped the Regalia Type-D over a fence and accidentally crashed into a car and now I'm stuck on a laoding screen lol
