Arachne, a web browser for DOS from 1996 (last updated 2013):

block recommendation (spam instances, right-wing agitprop, antivax, etc)

A group known as "fightbigtech" has been creating a ton of spammy instances full of rightwing agitprop.

Here's a list of the ones I could find:

- tweety.icu
- katiehopkinspolitical.icu
- voicenews.icu
- antivaxxer.icu
- theduran.icu
- censorship.icu
- political.icu

I would recommend general suspicion of any .icu domain, seeing as they're cheap — don't autoblock them, but perhaps check their content if they show up.

re: instance admin

@finn if this instance comes back up as surfin.horse i'm going to be so disappointed.

proud, but also disappointed.

@gulfie Oooo! That's ABSOLUTELY a good reason to get an RTX card then, totally go for it! *nodnod* If it's task specific then, yeah, the RTX will probs do a lot for your performance in blender. Though... the extra ram will DEFINITELY help too and prevent other bottlenecks for the time being.

re: mkwii

@monorail @skelly@redroo.ml wh...what was...

I had to watch that a couple times to be sure I saw what I thought I saw...

....I mean CONCEIVABLY, those last few bounces COULD have just... zoomed JUUUST in front and behind them but...

eehhhiiiIIIidunno about that one. sus as fuck either way.

@dzuk@weirder.earth ...that's adorable and now this is all I can see and i love it.

re: Need Pc building advice :boost_requested:

@gulfie woah okay that's not bad at all. I mean sure it's only mid range, but that's upper mid range. Honestly you might be better off springing for a 1660 Super because they're like... what... £250 - £300? And they massively outperform even a 980. Though if the rpice of a 3060ti is about the same obv go for the 3060ti ^^;

re: Need Pc building advice :boost_requested:

@gulfie I mean heck, what IS your current graphics card by the way?

re: Need Pc building advice :boost_requested:

@gulfie Oh yeah! Honestly, once you whack some good ram in and get at least 16gb in there (I'd go as fast as possible for those ram, if your mobo can support it out of the box, def go for 3000mhz ram at least! Point, actually, if you know your mobo model number - CPU-Z can help in this - it's easy enough to find what ram it'll support!), you'll see a marked increase in performance.

@yeenbean just a couple of best dude buddies, doing normal best dude buddies things, like making out, holding hands, going on dates, totally normal, totally straight, yep

re: Need Pc building advice :boost_requested:

@gulfie So yeah, if you haven't the money to do what is basically an entire new system, then upgrading the ram to as fast as you can, and more of it, for your mobo, as well as the 3060ti, will improve things quite a bit, but until you get a newer mobo/cpu and ddr4 ram, you're always gonna struggle with getting ultra settings outta things.

re: Need Pc building advice :boost_requested:

@gulfie your MAIN Bottlenecks however, will be that DDR3 ram, which, you know, 4gig isn't a whole lot to work with ._.;
your CPU is still pretty great, but your next upgrade absolutely should be a new mobo/processor and ram combo, DDR4 and PCI-e 4.0 at least. Ryzen 5 is a fair magnitude faster than the i7 4770k, which is only SLIGHTLY faster than the stock 4770.

re: Need Pc building advice :boost_requested:

@gulfie You seem to have a similar system to my old one, though I had 32 gb of DDR3. The 3060ti WILL run on an older PCI-E 3.0 slot, but it will create SOMETHING of a bottleneck. That said, it won't be too noticable since sure while PCI-e 4.0 can do 64gb/s, HDMI 2.1 only does like... 48. so even then it won't use up all that bandwidth even if you had PCI-e 4.
