the printer manufacturers can't turn a profit on the printers if they charge them what they actually cost to build, because nobody will actually BUY the damn things, so instead they massively inflate the price of the ink cartridges to ridiculous levels, but now they're caught in this situation where they have no CHOICE but to do this??

The 2021 census includes:
""Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth? -> This question is voluntary" and provides two reply options:
* Yes
* No, write in gender identity (and provides a box to write down your gender identity)"
As they note, it's useful to fill this out accurately if you /are/ trans:
"There is a lack of information on how large the trans* population is the UK, and estimates vary a lot - and are often disputed. Resourcing and funding for GICs and other services are based on population sizes. Both the government and transphobes tend to push down estimates of how large the trans* population is as a reason to under-fund GICs and services. If the size of the UK trans* population is more accurately known then the government will have less excuse to continue to under-fund and under-resource GICs and services, and transphobes will be less able to claim that 'there aren't many trans* people in the UK' and then claim that 'services aren't justified for a small number of people'."
