only it turns out at the end the friend is an AI and has already been travelling around with them, and just needed time to upload themselves so they could be with theirr friend properly, hence the road trip.

(The sequel is them gettting parts to make a robot body for them so they can hug :D )

friend goes on a roadtrip to visit their friend they've been chatting to online, and has great mobile reception and a great plan, and doesn't want to not talk to their friend, so they set up their laptop to videocall via their phone while they drive so their friend can "road trip" with them, but they both keep getting distracted and end up hitting various places along the way, and the laptop and phone get brought around too so it's like a virtual long distance road trip
